National Assembly Speaker Tsetska Tsacheva and Minister Nikolina Angelkova validate a postage stamp “Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019”

The Old Town of Plovdiv is named the most visited tourist attraction in Bulgaria; the municipality of Plovdiv marks a steady growth of 6%. This is what Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova underscored at the ceremony of postage stamp validation on the occasion of Plovdiv’s election as European Capital of Culture 2019. The event was attended by the National Assembly  SpeakerTsetska Tsacheva, the Deputy Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Valery Borisov, the Mayor of Plovdiv Ivan Totev and others.

"The results achieved by Plovdiv are related to its election as European Capital of Culture 2019 and until then we will organize many other events that will attract extra attention to both the city and our country", said Nikolina Angelkova. She stressed that for advertising the country in 2016 the Ministry of Tourism will stake on cultural tourism. "We are planning to set up special awards to encourage municipalities and industry that will be presented annually to those who consistently work for the development of tourism in Bulgaria", said Minister Angelkova.

The postage stamp themed "Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019" has a circulation of 10,050 pieces. Its artist Tatyana Uzunova has recreated one of Plovdiv’s symbols, the Ancient Theatre.
